Welcome

Welcome to the website of Lyrique-en-Mer/Festival de Belle-Île.

Since 1998 the Festival has been presenting opera performances and concerts in the magical setting of Belle-Île-en-Mer in Brittany, France.  Over the past ten years the historic Citadelle Vauban has played host to performances of such works as Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, Bluebeard's Castle, The Tales of Hoffmann, Carmen, Falstaff, La Bohème and Così fan tutte, presenting international singers from such prestigious houses as New York's Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, L'Opèra de Paris, La Scala, Milan and London's Covent Garden.

We invite you to join us in 2008, our eleventh season, the highlights of which include:

•   Rossini's comic masterpiece, The Barber of Seville in a sparkling production by director Neta Amit, conducted by Lyric Opera of Chicago's Philip Morehead.

•   The Citadelle Vauban becomes the Castel Sant’ Angelo in Puccini's passionate tragedy, Tosca, directed by Richard Cowan, Artistic Director and Festival Founder.

•   Festival Music Director Philip Walsh conducts the Festival Chorus in performances of Brahms' German Requiem, given in each of the island's four churches.

•   The ever-popular Cocktail Concerts showcase the talents of the impressive line-up of singers from our Young Artist programme.

We hope you will join us for another exciting summer of opera on Belle-Île.
