Belle-Ile en Mer is located in Brittany, about 500 km away from Paris. 20 km long and 12 km wide, it's the largest of the Breton islands. It has a population of around 4500 inhabitants.
Throughout the centuries, it has always been considered as a strategic place, as much for its perfect location not far from the French coasts as for its natural springs, which allowed the battleships to re-supply their drinking water.
The four towns and their four distinct municipalities are henceforth united as one district.
