What a summer it was at Lyrique en Mer, the leading opera festival in Brittany
!
The Festival presented some 25 events in 2006, including six performances
of Mozart's Don Giovanni and four evenings of Verdi's Falstaff, all in the
historic Citadelle Vauban.
In the island's churches of Le Palais, Sauzon, Locmaria and Bangor, the
Choeur du Festival performed Haydn's Nelson Mass. World premiere performances
of Artistic Director Richard Cowan's work entitled Winds were also heard
on these evenings.
The Festival also presented four of the popular Cocktail Concerts at Reduit
B in Le Palais.
Artists of the Festival led five Master Classes where young, up-and-coming
singers from France, the US, Spain, South Africa and Britain publicly sang
and worked with their more seasoned colleagues.
We are pleased to announced that in 2007 the Festival will present the Tales of Hoffmann by Offenbach and Verdi's La Traviata. More details about this
celebratory season will be available soon.
Thanks to all 5,000 of you who came to our concerts in 2006. We look forward
to seeing you again for our next season, the tenth anniversary of Lyrique
en Mer.
